Different Modules:
Just like in the basic language learning and acquisition, there are four skills to learn and master before we are able to completely grasp the language, So it is in the IELTS as well. They test you on the basic language skills which are divided into four modules namely:
The IELTS listening test is divided into four sections. You will be asked 40 questions in this task and the time allotted for this will be 30 minutes. The listening test is recorded on a CD and all the recordings are played only ONCE. You are given time to read the questions, write down the answers. Answers can be written on the question paper as you listen to the recording. After the recording ends, you will be given terminates to transfer your answer to an Answer sheet.
Listening section can further be categorized.
Sec: 1 The section comprises of a conversation between two people set in an everyday social situation.
Sec: 2 In this section, you will listen to a monologue set in an everyday social situation.
Sec: 3 This section has a conversation between up to four people set in an educational or training can text.
Sec: 4 It is a monologue on an academic subject.
The reading test of IELTS is divided into three sections. This test is different for the Academic and the General training module of the IELTS. Both of them have 40 questions in all and you will be given one hour to complete the entire task.
There are three sections; these are taken from books, journals, magazines and newspapers. They range from the descriptive and tactual to the discursive and analytical. Each text might be accompanied by diagrams, graphs or illustrations and you will be expected to show that you understand these too.
There are three sections in the general reading. The texts used in each section are taken from notices, advertisements, company handbooks, official documents, books, magazines and newspapers.
Section 1: Contains two or three short factual texts, one of which may be made up of 6-8 short texts related by topic. (Topics are relevant to everybody life in an English speaking country).
Section 2: Includes two shorts factual texts focusing on work related issues.
Section 3: Contains one longer more complex text on a topic of general interest.
The writing test of the IELTS has 2 tasks for both the Academic as well as General training module. The task one for both of them is same, whereas the task one is different for Academic and general IELTS.
Task In this you will be presented with a graph, table, chart or diagram. You will be asked to describe, summarize or explain the information in jouroun words.
You will be expected to write in a formal style in the IELTS Academic writing test and there will be a minimum number of words (usually 150 or more) to be used while attempting this task.
TaskYou will be presented with a situation and asked to write a letter requesting intonation or explaining the situation. You can write the letter in a personal, semi-formal or formal style minimum numbers of words 150 or more.
WritYou will be asked to write an essay in response to apoint of view, agreement or problem. You should keep in mind that the task 2 is worth twice as much as task 1. The minimum word limit for this will be 250.
The entire writing test will be of 60 minutes. 20 minutes for task 1 and 40 minutes for task 2.
Speaking test is same for both Academic and General. The test is same for both Academic and General. The test is divided into 3 sections and it tasks up to a maximum of 15 minutes. The IELTS speaking test component assesses your use of spoken English and the test is recorded, which is analyzed and marked on it for your fluency, coherence and grammar.
Section 01:
In this section the examiner will ask you general questions about yourself and a range of familiar topics, such as home, family, work, studies and interest. This part lasts between four and five minutes.
Sectio For this section you will be given a card which asks you to talk about a particular topic. You will have 1 minute to prepare before speaking for up to 2 minutes. The examiner will there ask one or two questions on the same topic.
Section 03:
It is an extension of section 2 and you will be asked further questions about the topic in part 2. This part of the test tasks between four and five minutes.

IELTS Academic Training
The IELTS Academic test is for people applying for higher education or professional registration in an English speaking environment. It reflects some of the features of academic language and assesses whether you are ready to begin studying or training.
IELTS General Training
The IELTS General training test is for these who are going to English speaking countries for secondary education, work experience or training programmers. It is also a requirement for migration to Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the UK. The test focuses on basic survival skills in broad social and work place contexts.
