The Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery in the RCSI coordinates and manages the Aptitude Test for a person (Overseas Nurse) applying to register as a general nurse with the NMBI.
The Aptitude Test comprises two parts:
Part 1: Theory or Knowledge Test or MCQ Test
Part 2: Practical or OSCE Test
Two attempts (that is, one repeat) will be allowed at each of the two parts of the Aptitude Test. The Theory Test must be repeated in full. The particular competency/competencies failed in the Practical Test must be repeated (details will be given with the results of the Practical Test).
If an applicant successfully completes the RCSI Aptitude Test (both the theory and the practical parts) then RCSI will inform the NMBI regarding the outcome. RCSI will have then completed its communication with the applicant regarding the Aptitude Test. Therefore in regard to registration with the NMBI, the applicant should forward all queries through the appropriate channels within the NMBI.
If an applicant is unsuccessful at the repeat / 2nd attempt of either part of the Aptitude Test, then RCSI will inform the NMBI.
